Though most visitors head to Sonoma County for wine-tasting and outdoor recreation, there are indeed a few Sonoma museums that deserve your attention. Most won't take up a huge portion of your time but are definitely worth a stop.

If you're in Santa Rosa, you'll want to visit the Charles M Schulz Museum, where you'll learn about the life of the Peanuts comic strip creator as well as the development of the comic strip and its characters. Any Charlie Brown and Lucy fan will love this museum!

Grab a bit of Sonoma history at the Luther Burbank Home and Gardens, also in Santa Rosa. Gather facts about the life of this famous horticulturist who made his home here in Sonoma County. Also in Santa Rosa, you'll find the small Sonoma County Museum, dedicated to regional history and culture.

As you head up Highway 101, also make a stop in Healdsburg and visit the Healdsburg Museum, where you can view artifacts and documents pertaining to the history of the northern portion of the county. A similar museum, the Petaluma Historical Museum/Library, reflects life in early 19th-century Petaluma.

Enjoy a wealth of Sonoma historical sites at the Sonoma State Historic Park, a combination museum/state park that includes the Mission San Francisco Solano, General Vallejo's home, the Toscano Hotel, and the Sonoma Barracks. See where the Bear Flag Republic got its start at this fascinating attraction.

A handful of other small Sonoma museums are located throughout the county, including a railroad museum and an air museum in Santa Rosa, a unique military antiques museum in pretty Petaluma, and the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art in the town of Sonoma.
